Bring your original hard-copy passport and a printed confirmation email, and arrive at the Pearson VUE centre 30 minutes early. More than 15 minutes late means refusal, an absent record and a forfeited fee. Accept the non-disclosure agreement within five minutes or the exam ends. You then have 60 minutes with no extensions and an on-screen calculator. SNB releases the result to your employer's HR within 2 to 3 days. Sources checked 25 October 2026.
The night before
Do your logistics, not your learning. Anything new you try to learn now is unlikely to stick and can raise anxiety.
- Check the confirmation email. Confirm the date, time, centre address and your name as shown.
- Pack the original passport. It is the key document. A photocopy or a photo on a phone is not enough, according to the CBT FAQ requirement for an original hard copy.
- Print the confirmation email. SNB expects a printed copy.
- Plan the route. Check transport and allow for delays. Arriving 30 minutes early leaves little spare time if your travel time is uncertain.
- Eat, hydrate and sleep. A normal evening meal and a normal bedtime help more than a late revision session.
- Skim your error log once. Then stop.
You must cancel at least 48 hours before the exam to withdraw, and reschedule more than 24 hours before to avoid losing the fee. If you are unwell the night before, those windows have already closed, so contact Pearson VUE and your HR contact immediately and ask what can be done. Do not assume the fee will be returned.
Your ID in detail
The CBT FAQ and the Pearson VUE page set the identification rule. Read it exactly.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Document | Original hard-copy passport |
| Issued by | The government of your country of citizenship |
| Language | English |
| Content | Photo and signature |
| Name | Must match the name your employer submitted to SNB |
| Other paper | Printed copy of the confirmation email |
If your passport name differs from your application, for example in the order of given names or the use of a middle name, tell HR long before test day. A mismatch can mean you are not admitted and the fee is forfeited. The fee is at stake because arriving without valid ID is treated like an absence.
Arrival and check-in
Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. Pearson VUE centres have their own procedures for storing belongings, checking ID and taking a photo or other identity checks. The pages we read do not list every procedure, so follow staff instructions and the rules shown in your confirmation email. Expect to leave bags and phones in a locker or other storage. Ask staff about breaks and how to call for help before you start.
If you are delayed, there is a hard limit: more than 15 minutes late and you are refused entry, recorded as absent and your fee is forfeited. Contact the centre at once if you are running late, but do not count on being allowed in.
The first five minutes
The first screen is the non-disclosure agreement. You must accept it within five minutes, or the exam ends. Read it, accept it and move on. Do not leave it for later and do not lose time in a long pause. After that, the 60-minute clock runs. Pearson VUE states there are no extensions.
Before you answer your first question, do three things: note how to flag a question if the software allows it, find the calculator and see where the time is shown. These take under a minute and save time later.
During the 60 minutes
SNB does not publish the number of live questions, so you cannot divide the time exactly. Use a method that works with whatever number appears.
Pacing
If the paper has 60 items, aim for about one minute each. Check your position after 15, 30 and 45 minutes. If you are behind, shorten rereading and commit faster. If the count is different, divide 60 minutes by the number on the screen and use that figure.
Reading each question
- Read the final line first. It tells you the task, such as first action, priority, best response or further teaching needed.
- Read the situation. Note the patient, the setting, the numbers and the time.
- Predict the answer before you look at the options.
- Read all four options (A to D in the official samples). Remove those that are unsafe, outside your scope or not the first step.
- Choose, and move on.
Calculations
Use the on-screen calculator. Write the sum in the same order every time, check the units, and ask whether the answer is sensible. A tablet count of 40 for a single dose, or an infusion rate of several litres an hour, should make you stop. Our medication domain page has a method.
Flagging and returning
The pages we read do not say whether you can go back to earlier questions. Practise both ways in the weeks before. If the software allows flagging, use it for questions that need more than a minute, and return in the last minutes. Do not change an answer without a specific reason.
Handling stress
- Breathe out slowly before the first question. It takes ten seconds.
- If you meet three hard questions in a row, do not conclude the exam is going badly. Difficulty is not evenly spread.
- Do not argue with a question. Pick the best answer from the options given and the information in the stem.
- If you blank, restate the question in your own words. It often triggers the rule you know.
A sample timeline
Times are illustrative. Use your own appointment time and travel time.
| Time | Action |
|---|---|
| Night before | Pack passport and printed confirmation, plan the route, sleep |
| Three hours before | Light meal, water, short walk |
| Two hours before | Leave with a buffer for transport delays |
| 45 minutes before | Arrive near the centre, use the toilet, check documents |
| 30 minutes before | Check in with the original passport |
| Appointment time | Accept the non-disclosure agreement within five minutes |
| First minute | Find the calculator, the clock and any flag button |
| Minutes 1 to 55 | Work through questions at a steady pace |
| Last five minutes | Answer anything left, review flagged items if allowed |
| After | Leave as directed, rest, ask HR when the result will be shared |
Things people forget
- Time zone and daylight. If you travel to a centre in another city, confirm the local time of your appointment.
- Name format. Some passports show a single name or an unusual order. Tell HR early and ask them to confirm how it appears in your Pearson VUE profile.
- Expired or damaged passport. A damaged or nearly expired passport can cause problems at check-in. Check before you pay.
- Food and drink. Eat beforehand. You may not be allowed snacks in the testing room, and the 60-minute clock does not stop for a break. Ask the centre what is allowed before the day.
- Phones and watches. Expect them to be stored. Plan to use the on-screen clock.
- Mental rehearsal. Imagine the first five minutes, from check-in to the first question, so nothing feels new.
Practice that mirrors the day
In the final two weeks, run at least two full-length timed sets in a quiet place, with a calculator window and no phone. Start at the time of day you will sit the exam, if you know it. Practise reading one question at a time, committing to an answer and moving on. After each set, review pacing as well as content: did you reach the end, and did you rush the last ten?
If something goes wrong on the day
If the computer fails, the room is noisy or you are interrupted, raise your hand and tell the test centre staff at once, so that there is a record. Ask the staff what the procedure is, and tell your HR contact afterwards. Do not wait until later to report a problem. Keep a note of the time and what happened.

After you finish
Follow the on-screen steps to end the exam. Leave the centre as directed. You will not see your result there: Pearson VUE does not release results to candidates. SNB releases results to your employer's HR within 2 to 3 days, and HR sees them on the NRS1.5 dashboard. Agree with HR in advance how they will inform you. Then, whatever the outcome, write down a few notes on what felt hard while your memory is fresh, without recording or sharing exam content. If you do not pass, those notes can help you plan a retake.
Do not record, copy or share questions. You accept a non-disclosure agreement at the start, and sharing exam content can cause serious problems for you and for other candidates. We do not collect recalled questions.

Frequently asked questions
What do I need to bring to the SNB exam?
Your original hard-copy passport, issued by your government of citizenship, in English with photo and signature, with a name matching what your employer submitted. Bring a printed copy of your confirmation email too.
How early should I arrive?
Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will be refused entry, recorded as absent and your fee forfeited.
How long is the SNB exam?
60 minutes with no extensions, according to the Pearson VUE page. The number of live questions is not published, so we use 60 as a planning figure only.
Can I use a calculator?
Yes. An on-screen calculator is available. Practise using it before the exam, because entering sums in a consistent way reduces mistakes.
What is the non-disclosure agreement?
An agreement you must accept at the start of the exam. You have five minutes to accept it, or the exam ends. It means you must not share exam content.
When do I get my result?
SNB releases the result to your employer's HR within 2 to 3 days. Pearson VUE does not release results to candidates, so you will learn it from HR.
Can I go back to earlier questions?
The pages we read do not say. Practise both ways. If the software offers flagging, use it sparingly for questions that need more time.
What if I am sick on the exam day?
Contact Pearson VUE and your HR contact straight away. Rescheduling is free only more than 24 hours before, and cancelling needs at least 48 hours notice. A no-show forfeits the fee, so ask what options exist.
